01 Feb Is social media driving us mad?
Receiving a driving licence is a great day for most people; driving enables freedom and opportunity. However, as my dad continuously reminded me in my teens, a car can be a lethal weapon; think every time before you drive. In response to supporting road safety, governments create multiple laws to protect those on and off our roads, including a recommended 40 hours of practice, theory and practical tests. Yet despite this, there are approximately 346 sometimes tragic life-changing traffic accidents in the UK daily.
Why should the internet be any different? With all the freedoms and opportunities, we are all aware now that the internet can be a dangerous place to navigate, so why on earth would we give our children a vehicle such as a smartphone or a laptop and allow them to steer a joyride around the internet expecting legislation to protect them without teaching them first how to use it.
